With Zelf Varen Den Bosch you board at the bustling Tramkade: the creative heart of the city. From here you can sail straight up the Dommel in your own boat without skipper, so you set the pace. Although you are not allowed to sail through the Binnendieze, you will see Den Bosch from a completely different angle. Think green banks, historic buildings and beautiful stops along the way.

Citadel
The Citadel is an ancient fortress built in 1645 that was once built to defend the city from outside attacks. You immediately recognize the fortress by its sturdy walls and distinctive square design. Formerly a military stronghold, today it is a historical monument. Nice to know: part of the old city wall is still hidden under the Citadel. From the water you can clearly see how impressive this place still is.

Rowing Club
You cruise past the rowing club where athletic Bosschenaars train daily. You might even see them gliding across the water. The club has existed for decades and contributes to the city's vibrant water sports culture. It is a fun place where sports and recreation meet.

City Wall
Along the route you can still see parts of the old city wall. This protected Den Bosch from sieges for centuries. The thick stone walls remind of the time when Den Bosch was an impregnable fortress. A special sight during your trip on the Dommel.

Muntelbolwerk
The Muntelbolwerk is a remnant of Bossche's fortress belt. The bulwark used to protect the north side of the city. From your sloop you can see the forms of this old defensive wall, with the city district De Muntel behind it. Fun fact: remains of old cannons were found here during archaeological research. A surprising hotspot during your canal cruise in Den Bosch.

Water Tower
Den Bosch's water tower dates back to 1885 and is one of the oldest in the Netherlands. With its height of over 40 meters, it towers above everything else. It was built to provide the city with running water and is now a national monument. You can see it from afar, a perfect landmark during your cruise through Den Bosch.

Zandvang (Heijmansgat)
A special piece of water management: this is where sand from the Dommel River is collected to prevent blockage downstream. It may seem like a quiet corner, but it plays a major role in keeping the river clean. You sail past a place where technology and nature go hand in hand.

Camping Koffietent
Along the route is a cozy campground with a coffee shop. Perfect for a quick stop for coffee or something sweet. The terrace is right on the water, so you can even float while you pick up your order. Perfect for a short break.

Sluis o den bosch rondvaart
Sluis 0
This old lock used to regulate the water level between the Dommel and South Willemsvaart rivers. It is now out of operation, but remains an interesting point along your route. You can still clearly see how the doors and flood defenses were constructed. Please note that you cannot sail through here.

Monastery Mariënburg
This former monastery is located on one side of the Dommel River, right across from City Monastery San Damiano. The building breathes history and recalls the religious life that was once abundant in the city. Today it has an educational function and has been beautifully renovated.

Small Harbour
The Narrow Harbor is exactly what the name says: narrow, cozy and full of atmosphere. This used to be an important trade route and goods were unloaded here. Nowadays you see here mostly lively facades, cozy apartments and beautiful vistas to the old city center. Take a break here and enjoy the unique cityscapes during your own canal cruise through Den Bosch.

Bastion Maria
Bastion Maria is one of the best preserved pieces of Bossche's fortifications. You sail right past it and can clearly see here how strategically the city used to be protected. This bastion was built as early as the 17th century and provided space for cannons and soldiers. Now it is a piece of quiet history on the waterfront.

Essent langs de rondvaart Den Bosch
Essent
Along the Dommel River you can see the large Essent building. This was once the headquarters of the energy company Essent. Its modern appearance contrasts nicely with the historic buildings you encounter along the way. A great example of how Den Bosch combines old charm with new functions.

Brabanthallen
On the edge of the center are the Brabanthallen, where everything from large fairs to concerts and festivals are organized. Nice to know: the complex has existed since 1931 and began as a cattle market. Now it is a bustling place that you can see in perspective from the water during your cruise.

Bouldinghall Oeteldonske Club
Carnival is alive all year round in Den Bosch, especially in the Oeteldonk Construction Hall. This is where the iconic carnival floats you see every year in the parade are built. During your own cruise, you can spot this huge shed from the Dommel River.

Watersports club The Viking
This club has been home to water sports enthusiasts for years. You can see canoes, rowboats and other sloops going in and out of the water here. It is right on the Dommel River and is always a lively sight. Nice to see how others also enjoy boating in Den Bosch. A nice addition to your own tour.

Heineken Brewery
The brewery was built in 1958 and is still operating. From the water, you can see the large silos and buildings of the brewery complex. You might even smell the malt in the air. A great time to start thinking about where you'll be drinking a cold beer later. An iconic point along your route.

Engelen
Just outside the city lies the quiet village of Engelen. From your sloop you will enjoy the green banks, old farms and wide views. Nice detail: Engelen has had its name since the Middle Ages and used to be an independent village. Ideal place to take a break during your cruise through Den Bosch.

Engelse Gat
The Engelse Gat is a former military training area near Engelen. You cruise past open plains and low vegetation. The name refers to the period when English soldiers practiced here. Nowadays it is a beautiful piece of nature where you experience plenty of peace and quiet during your trip.

Lock off Engelen
This lock takes care of the difference in water level between the Maas and Dommel rivers. You might even see it in action! The lock has existed since the 19th century and is still working. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to pass through it with our sloops.
